That article was about business, politics, money and politicians not wanting to be blamed.

I didn't see the average voter who voted for Brexit represented at all. In fact the referenced politician was not in the government and is committed "remain in the EU" politician who was demanding that, after leaving, the UK should not be impacted by the change.

This is diametrically opposed to the narrative about Brexiteers being shocked by freedom of movement being restricted.

I was simply pointing out that there have always been problems at Dover during the school holidays, but hey, they are made worse by Brexit. Accept it.

I did accept it. However they are also being made worse with Covid checks too. In fact the checks for Covid are significantly more onerous than the checks for Passport.

What I found, with Irish Ferries, was that the wait was equal. I was stuck in the queue to get through checkin for just as long as I was for the passport/covid.

Brexit makes things worse. Yes, we can adjust to that. Douane action against British travellers? I think we have a right to complain a bit about that because there is simply nothing we can do about it. We just have to suffer. The port made provisions and the Douane quite deliberately decided to screw it up. That is malice a forethought and deserves a call out.

I did indeed. In the past there were problems, at some times, because of pressure of numbers wanting to travel. However, we did not have Duane at Dover so we eventually got through. Now we have the Brexit thing and that has made things worse, and will continue to do so.

It is a nightmare for travellers at the moment, particularly for those who are elderly or those with young children. Perhaps the time has come for holidaymakers to book a holiday in the the UK and boost our economy at the same time. They would be certain of a warm welcome from hoteliers in the UK that's for sure.

Personally, for me, I'm not complaining about the Douane; if a dog waters the wheel on your car it is not vandalism. I just won't blame the port for it as so many are.

The Ferry companies, sure, they're doing their level best to come over as incompetent. I'm crossing on Aug 6th, I'll come back after that experience and let you know how it went. But my experience is different with the Douane than most. I speak French to them and I present French Covid evidence (TousAntiCovid).

The crazy thing is that the Brits could also use TousAntiCovid, it's free to install. Then you just scan your barcodes and jobs a goodun. Most people I've talked about it to think this is WAY too much, the NHS app should be enough...

Now you see Kaz I find your comment really interesting. We havent holiday'd abroad since 1998 and only 4 times in total anyway. So yes I can see the cost of UK holidays going up. But this year we had a beautiful apartment in Cornwall in March and a lovely apartment in Aberdyfi in May. Both two bedroomed, because if I cant sleep I like to escape and both two bathroomed, as I like to be able to luxuriate with my book in the bath without, as at home, hurry up I need to get ready too being shouted at me I cant remember how much they both were, but I know our apartment in September, in Appledore North Devon, again with two bedrooms, and two bathrooms (and even 2 baths) was the most expensive one of the lot at £795. Factor in tank of fuel each way, which is probably another £150. So for under a £1k you can get a nice half board holiday or self catering place in Spain or Greece for 2, including flights? I'm not doubting you just surprised.

The other view is my friend in Mevagissey reports the rise in anti-social behaviour eg fights, drinking, vomit on her early morning dog walk, since the rise in Brits staycationing. If thats quiet little Meva I can only imagine what Newquay has become
