I was never a fan of Tommy Cooper from his TV shows, but then a few years before he died I saw him at a cabaret show in West Yorkshire.....it might have been in Wakefield, the Showbar? Anyway one of those places that were popular at the time where you sat at tables and could drink, eat and watch top acts at the same time.
He was fabulous, the whole place went electric when he came out, extremely funny, and made absolute mincemeat of a very drunk heckler, in a very easy and classy way
I've not watched the TV programme this weekend, I don't really like the way they pick holes in the private lives of famous people after they have died......so he had a girlfriend outside his marriage and a temper, so what? He's been dead 30 years and times have changed a great deal since then........
I was going to watch Jamaica Inn on the iplayer, but don't know if I will bother now, if it hasn't been true to the book
