I think the problem with Tommy Cooper is, I didn't like his act anyway, so to find out he was just horrible off stage meant I really didn't care.

I was never a fan of Tommy Cooper from his TV shows, but then a few years before he died I saw him at a cabaret show in West Yorkshire.....it might have been in Wakefield, the Showbar? Anyway one of those places that were popular at the time where you sat at tables and could drink, eat and watch top acts at the same time.

He was fabulous, the whole place went electric when he came out, extremely funny, and made absolute mincemeat of a very drunk heckler, in a very easy and classy way 8-)

I've not watched the TV programme this weekend, I don't really like the way they pick holes in the private lives of famous people after they have died......so he had a girlfriend outside his marriage and a temper, so what? He's been dead 30 years and times have changed a great deal since then........ :?

I was going to watch Jamaica Inn on the iplayer, but don't know if I will bother now, if it hasn't been true to the book :?

He was allegedly a wife beater. There is no way I would watch for that reason.

We didn't watch it but I heard someone in town saying she couldn't hear properly, the other woman said it was in the Mail.

Just started to watch the first episode, and have given up on it after less than half an hour - apart from the dark and the mud and the dirt, I thought the acting was poor and the actor playing Joss was incomprehensible, not just the sound quality but his diction was terrible. It didn't grab us at all and we won't be watching it again.

The casting of Joss is all wrong. Such a brilliant story, spoilt :(

Just seen this n DD

Our local TV station has just been discussing the problems in hearing the sound in last night's programme and have found that there were technical problems with the sound last night that couldn't be altered while 'Jamaica Inn' was on air.
However, they have now sorted it and both the remaining episodes should be much clearer - so you can all tune in again and enjoy it!

The sound wasn't the only problem though. I hope they re-cast it and get another script writer too

Didn't fancy Jamaica Inn, and I love du Maurier books.

We watched the TC thing, for the first hour but then we went to bed....it's recorded so we'll catch up on the second half another time :)

Part 2

No better in my point of view. Why do we have the character Hannah? In the book she is just the housekeeper isn't she? :?
